Can anybody tell me what this book was actually about? I read what must have been the first 20(?) issues a while back, but never finished the series. I found it all super confusing, but strangely addictive. I could never tell if it was sci-fi, or horror, or action, or mystery, or whatever, and nothing ever seemed to get close to being tied up.
I’m not even sure I found them enjoyable, just intriguing in a LOST kind of way.

It sounds like it went somewhere totally weird. I didn't think it was a strange book to start - just kind of slow and plodding. It had its moments but I'm glad Garry Brown got more work out of it (CATWOMAN is terrific).
I actually loved it, when the series started it was my favorite thing on the stands. But a big part of what I loved is that it was a somewhat plausible look at a sad future that we created for ourselves. As the series went on and on it was less about that and more about a greater power at work, at first I was intrigued by this mystery, but the conclusion was kind of blah. And yes, it was totally weird to the point that it was clashing with everything that had come before it.
I was really intrigued by the mystery angle. I was kind of reading it alongside The Wake, and I think they got slightly mixed up in my head, so this felt much more mystical than it actually was. If I remember rightly, the only supernatural thing was some girl who turned out to be able to swim underwater without breathing (?). Then there was nothing similar referenced for ages, and I just kind of got bored. I'll check the ending out though, if anything I think a bit of weirdness would help that book.
