This was my resolution a couple of years ago, but it was a lot easier then as I was working as an illustrator anyway. Now I'm not freelancing, I'm doing a lot less drawing, but I have tried to keep up the monthly pummel challenges over at penciljack.com.
Here's my first for the year, Stripperella in the style of a Wic+Div cover.
I can't draw a lick, so I can't help with the New Art but I LOVE this. Are you familiar with Ian Bertram's work? He's in the same realm of Darrow and really killing it.
Ooh, he's doing some lovely stuff. His faces are great, sort of a BPRD/Abe Sapien vibe. I'd love to see him join Mignolas stable (he'd be a hell of a lot better than Laurence Campbell for starters, who I can't stand). He's like Geof Darrow mixed with Edward Gorey...
I was undecided on Laurence Campbell until I saw his raw artwork in my LCS – he's just objectively bad. All his faces have little bits of paper stuck over them because he's had to do them 2 or 3 times. Admittedly, once coloured and printed at reading size, he gets away with it, especially with the moodiness of BPRD. I suspect he references a hell of a lot though.
