I found Resident Evil 5 to be pretty mediocre. It wasn't bad by any means, but compared to what every other shooter around it was doing it felt dated. I guess being able to walk while shooting is asking for too much.

Hhmm, I'll think about some sweet ones and let you know. I distinctly remember thinking "X game does this better!" While playing but I can't remember what X is right now In terms of 3rd person games I love the Uncharted series, the new Tomb Raider was awesome, and obviously my favorite game Last of Us.
Another problem that I had with RE5 that you wouldn't have is I wanted it to be more than just RE4 in Africa, but it didn't seem that much newer to me. If you only play limited games obviously that's not going to be a complaint you'll have.
If you want a game where you shoot stuff and such you could try out Vanquish, I found it to be a very fun game that for whatever reason not that many people talk about. It's got a very dumb plot with the classic anime over the top-ness and such, but the game itself is really fun and wild. Just ignore the stupidity of whatever people are saying and how groan inducing it is.

I am currently having a blast with the new Lord of the Rings tie-in game, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. It's a fun, third-person action title that feels like the love child of Assassin's Creed, the new Tomb Raider, and the Batman: Arkham Asylum series. Totally great.
